Knowledge Base

The Knowledge Base shows you everything the AI assistant has access to — building codes, city guidelines, permit requirements, and other documents your department has added. Use it to see why the AI answered the way it did, or to check whether a document is in the system.

Most staff have read-only access here — you can browse and open everything, but adding or editing sources is an administrator task. If you don't see Knowledge Base in your sidebar, your account doesn't have access to it.

Finding the Knowledge Base

Click Knowledge Base in the left sidebar.

What you'll see

Each source in the list shows:

Name

The document title

Original Source

Link to the source file (PDF, website, etc.)

Type

Document or website

Tags

Labels assigned to the source

Editions

Number of versions indexed

Created

When it was added

Filtering by tag

Sources are labeled with tags, and you can filter the list by checking the tags you care about. Your department sets its own tags — they usually map to review areas like building plan review, fire, land use, transportation, or utilities.

Checking if a document is indexed

If you're wondering whether the AI knows about a specific code section or guideline:

  1. Open the Knowledge Base

  2. Filter by tag or scroll the list

  3. Look for the document name

If it's not listed, the AI won't know about it. Ask your administrator or Govstream.ai support to add it.

Why this matters

When the chat assistant cites a source, you can come here to verify:

  • The document is current (check the edition and created date)

  • The full document is available (open the original source link)

  • Related documents are also indexed

It helps you trust the AI's answers — and spot when it's relying on something out of date.
